Cincy ‘53 Willys Wagon 4x4 F134 Warn OD

OK I haven't really updated this since the whole movie thing. Ive had it back a couple weeks, as they say one step forward and four steps back.
1 My hood flew up' painters apparently messed with the hinges/adjustment &^&*^%$
2 gas tank back at the metal shop for 3rd time, as its weeping near the pickup tube outlet (so much for the guaranteed liner and powdercoat) next time I will do it myself
3 radiator back at the shop as well, but only for the first time, I think this might be my fault, as the last motor I swapped in did have a bunch of rust/scale that blocked almost half the cores, easy fix but nonetheless frustrating
4 Ive had a crazy oil leak at the timing cover inlet on the female flare side, JB couldn't do it, and since nobody wanted to braze it in the vehicle, so last weekend I removed the crank pulley, installed new seal, gasket and it still leaks at the very same place, the male end of the flare looks fine, but until I have a new one I cant rule it out, surely other guys have had this issue with the F134? I did learn a trick when I could get enough air to run my impact, wedge a breaker bar in the frame rail, remove coil wire, hit starter, wholla cracked nut loose 2nd try!

Some good news, my new seats are in, all new panels are in, lots of OEM interior bits installed, like new visors, locks, armrest front and rear, slider locks, knobs and other fun items.

I am still torn on the decision to monsterliner the interior, of course skipping the dash, but otherwise everything else or doing the right thing and doing the prep work to spray proper paint.

This was never meant to be a concourse or a restoration, I am just nervous that potential buyers would be turned off by the liner?

Looks much better than the two-tone imho.
As a footnote, I would not buy a classic (which yours is) with Rhino or Monster liner. It hides too much.
Probably too much opinion for one post, but I strongly dislike that stuff on anything but a rockcrawler.

Updates oil line issue resolved, apparently overpriced no offshore line had a bad flare, as I had a custom line made and it fixed the leak. Reinstalled gas tank and radiator as we'll with no issues, oil changed since maybe now I can retain it long enough to actually need it. Today we will cleanup the engine bay mess, then stuff it with gas and run it hard, as a test for upcoming willys picnic

I am gonna put off the interior paint/liner until winter

Logged 150 miles around town, still cleaning oil mess all the way back to pumpkins. But no more leaks, as a measure of celebration or bad carma, I degreased the garage floor last night and this morning it's good to go, a dime spot here and there is good enough for me.

Met a fellow forum member yesterday but we talked too much to remember to take pics, it was a nice survivor though, had basket weave headliner, soundproofing under the hood and the script rubber mat!

My new oak slats drilled sanded and couple coats, should I bother to steel wool and do a 3rd? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1400679697.235929.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1400679712.035228.jpg

Hi Scott,

I'd add a third coat. Those slats see a lot of use... not much more work to add extra protection. Then again, it is a Willys...

Cheers,

Scramboleer

Hi Scott. Definitely give your Oak Slats a light going over with Four Ought Steel Wool and another coat Varathane or whatever you're using. It's easier to do it now than wait till after you install them then wish you had done it. Take it from an 'elderly' Wood Worker, do it while you have them sitting there. (Am I right on that PhxJim)? Yep, third coat. 4/0 steel wool or fine scotch brite, tack cloth and third coat. It is easy now and will be that much longer before they need it again.

I haven't been updating much on my thread, as the major fun stuff is done. I've logged well over 1700 miles since my last breakdown, but I haven't been posting as my iPhone had a rough summer and the pics are garbage....

However I located and restored a correct heater with a real defrost, repurposed a bed liner for flooring, scored two pair of snow chains for 60 bucks and more tinkering on brakes, steering and noise/rattle chasing.

For you guys wanting a vintage heater switch that lights up, the standard motors hs92 is ten bucks or so, they make a 6v & 12v version and it fits under the dash in the existing hole, the knob is all speed so you can control the fan infinitely....I don't care for low med and high

I posted separately that I picked up a 51 truck and will try better to document the process for others. Frame off this time

Really all this wagon needs is a headliner, wind lace and the correct split windshield, it been a blast and I learned more from this Willys then all my other wranglers and Cherokees combined...

Sorry I have not caught up with you regarding the overdrive... Life has been getting in the way of working on mine... Still interested if you still have it! Let me know! Sounds like you are making nice progress!

No updates in awhile, my wagon is mechanically done, allot of miles this summer trouble free. I've bought another 51 pickup and about to start a frameoff restoration.

In the interim, I landed a deal on rechromed bumpers, all of it, the rear corners aren't here yet, and these lovely entry guards.

For those interested I used greyhound shipping and it was 120 bucks from Memphis to Cincinnati, no damage faster than fedex!

I got a great deal and now all I need is the headliner and windlace and it's all done!

I'm am keeping it, at least until something else makes me not want it anymore

So I found the chrome bumper bolts, washers spacers and other goodies at ace hardware, go figure. I did decide to go ahead and por 15 silver, the backside of all my chrome pieces and black on the mounting brackets.

Also noticed that my center bar had some pennies on the back, but the chrome on the other side is perfect.....

Last part of the puzzle is what kind of seal, beading or channel goes between the guards and the bumper, surely something goes in there.

I do have a complete set of painted bumpers, front and rear, with all brows and rear corners and also a show quality no script rear bumper for trade bait.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416962246.180449.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1416962256.325751.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1416962267.956031.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1416962277.783820.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1416962288.737142.jpg

Finished cleaning and applying the por 15 on used rear bumpers and corners. I have a NOS non script rear bumper, but honestly the driver quality script is my preference, so I went ahead and installed them. Getting it all lined up was a bear to say the least, And I won't address the missing two center bolts until I have some help and can loosen the inboard frame mounts, to wrangle them into place.

Now the front bumpers, mounts, over rider guards, center bar and eyelets dry fitting went so well, that this morning I cut the beading seals and installed all the new chrome spacers and hardware.

Working with all of the chrome was nerve wracking, I was convinced that I was going to spin a wrench, drop a tool or otherwise, but it's all done now.

In the spirit of new chrome, I also put on the re chromed hood ornament and glued in my old insignia. Now if I could only find the grill bars and mirrors, license plate and rear brake lights.

Also some more recent acquisitions...love the tool bag, everything is perfect, I didn't take a pic but I also have a spare tire cover, custom car cover and some other odds and ends.
