Willys Year:
I picked up a 62 pickup today. The cab is still on it but the bed and front rap are off but are in good condition. It seems to be complete and everything seems to be in pretty good shape including that little flat trim piece that goes on the frame just behind the front bumper. Oh the floors are shot but new ones are in place, just need to be welded. It has all the basics: 226 motor, T-90 tranny, transfercase, plus it has a PTO and linkage to the front but no winch. It also has an overdrive. I know nothing about the overdrive. I did a search on this website but way too much info. Is there only one brand of overdrive or are there several? If there are more than one how will I identify mine? How about a few pointers, a sort of OD tutorial, Thanks JIM

If you can't find the information you're looking for on this site, call the guy. I've not dealt with him personally yet, but word has it he's a walking encyclopedia.

Generally speaking, you'll be looking at a 25% reduction in RPM to achieve the same speed. According to Dad, who had a Wagon with the same configuration without the overdrive, the overdrive I bought for my Wagon build (4th generation Willys owner here, I swear it's some sort of a genetic defect) which will also have the L6-226/t90/t18 setup should give me a top speed around 75 or 80. http://www.public.asu.edu/~grover/willys/speed.html This handy little calculator may be a little more accurate than his estimations though.

75 or 80 with original drum brakes sounds like fun. "it goes real fast Mommy but it don't stop so good" Herm the overdrive guy is your man. I think in 1962 both Warn and Husky made a unit. Your's should have a mark.
